In this case, virtual is quite accurate, as Strong Off isn’t beer; it’s hopposhu. Still, it’s not too vile, and it makes a couple of interesting claims on the can, so I had to check it out.

Continuing my Scandinavian beer expedition, I sample a lager brewed by and for independent thinkers. Noriko tells me it tastes pretty much just like Japanese beer.

Thanks to my involvement with Taido, I have friends all over the world. Surprisingly enough, some of them like beer too. This past weekend, Japan hosted the 5th Taido world championships in Hiroshima, and one of the fringe benifits for me was getting to drink with all my European friends. A couple of them even brought me some beers to try out.

This can of Karhu comes courtesy of Jouni Lassi from Finland. Thanks, Jouni - you kicked ass in the tournament.

So, Kirin recently updated their product line and revamped the recipe of their Ichiban (number 1) beer. The new Ichiban Shibori is a true beer, with no rice filler - only water, malt, and hops.

One of the cool things about living in Suita is that I am within a quick walk to Asahi’s major beer factory for Western Japan. They run about 6 free tours a month, and I try to hit at least one or two of those.

For the past few months, the Asahi Suita plant has offered a special premium selection on tap for its tour visitors. And it’s really damn good. Even better, they finally released it to the public, and it debuted today!

Check the video to see the internet’s first can-crack of Asahi’s new “The Master” and my impressions.

If you are someplace that sells The Master, I definitely recommend having a go at my new main squeeze.
